As at the moment, more than half of the world population resides in urban areas and this is predicted to rise beyond this figure and sit around two thirds by the middle of the century. This rapid urbanization let to some problems like crime, traffic and pollution and all these demands for a smart city solution. Looking at the supply side, this will create access to cheap devices that have connected more than half of the world population. If we add sensors and cameras that will result in more than billions of devices sharing data and that is what is referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT).
With these connected communities and access to affordable storage and with the introduction of blockchain technology paved the way to revolutionize cities and brand them to smart ones. In line with this and to make the lives of people better, CitiOS is at the edge of transforming the traditional cities into smart ones where the Internet of Things (IoT) devices are autonomous and able to best respond to scenarios in real-time with little or no human input. A system is required to keep track of the impact of calamities that arrived from environmental pollution so as to help in the recovery. CitiOS has put technology in place to combat this.
Let’s briefly explain about AIoT in CitiOS
The CitiOS project integrates blockchain technology that is tamperproof, immutable and secure with Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to build a system that is proficient to bring a lasting solution to many of the complex challenges facing humanity in this 21st century.
This project is setting the pace for modern smart cities where people will be living in complete automated cities that engaged the Internet of Things (IoT) and will have the ability to react to all presumable situations and in real-time.
With the increased rate of transformation from small towns to megacities, there is a lot left behind to ascertain that the difficulties of handling such massive cities are taken into consideration and the best way to manage this effectively is by automation to reduce the cost and this is the purpose while CitiOS is addressing this using blockchain solution. CitiOS Smart Streetlights
The present streelights in the major cities are joined together to the grid and control rooms to guarantee successful operations. Moving this into the blockchain in conjunction with Artificial intelligent (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT), streetlight can be controlled remotely without the need for too much infrastructure. This smart streetlight provided by CitiOS has three main components which are AI CCTV, solar panel and LoRa Private Network. The AI CCTV will be able to conveniently recognize many objects simultaneously, the solar panel will be used to power the streetlights and the LoRa Private Network to receive and transmit signals meaning that the lights can be remotely controlled.
Both developed and developing countries can take advantage of this. The Government of Kenya, for example, is embarking on massive rural electrification and streetlight installations across the cities and they can be a beneficiary of CitiOS solution since the streetlights are self-powered, inexpensive and easily installed since there will be no need for any costly infrastructure and it can be installed anywhere irrespective of whether there is a power grid connection in the locality or not.
Micropayments between machines
CitiOS was built using blockchain technology, there is a native token that will serve as a point to point payment withing the ecosystem and it is labeled R2R. The payments shall be high-speed and there will be no transaction fees.
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)
Through this channel, both the Government and the regulatory authorities will have the ability to observe various structures within a city in its cheapest form as compared to the traditional means. Since the SHM makes use of the sensor, it is very quick to respond and relay information, disasters can be quickly prevented considering that the information is quickly spread.
